At the next Davos summit, the World Economic Forum (WEF) plans to introduce the Global Collaboration Village, a virtual community that would resemble and operate like a genuine Swiss village.
The community is available through VR or mobile phones and the summit is designed using Microsoft Mesh, an interactive version of the company’s Teams collaboration platform.
The WEF envisions the village as a year-round collaboration space for the stakeholders of Davos and as a resource for programs that call for immersion, including environmental conservation.
After the conference, the WEF intends to have a large number of its meetings there as WEF Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab believes that virtual meetings with 3D avatars will foster more rapport and trust among participants.
According to Schwab, the village will take advantage of the metaverse’s cutting-edge capabilities to find solutions to today’s pressing problems in a more transparent, inclusive, and long-lasting manner. Besides, partners from the public and commercial sectors can easily extend their support in this regard.
Although Schwab is aware that some people might be reluctant to collaborate in virtual settings, he is optimistic that meetings in the metaverse will increase in frequency as technology advances.
He sees the Global Collaboration Village as a crucial component of the WEF’s plan to broaden its network of partners and includes more people in its deliberations. He also believes that technology is important in order to develop new forms of global cooperation.
WEF partners Meta and the IMF will be able to display their projects and activities at the Global Collaboration Village.
Kelly Ommundsen, the director of the WEF’s Global Collaboration Village, claims that the objective is to develop experiences that can only be carried out in the metaverse, rather than merely duplicating in-person or paper-based interactions.
This can include things like simulations of ocean conservation that show how soundscapes affect coral reefs or how mangroves help to slow the rise of the sea level.
The village will be used by the WEF for many of its meetings after the summit and will be accessible to other groups and individuals who are trying to improve the globe.
