HTC VIVE aims to combine Mixed Reality (MR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in a compact, powerful, versatile and lightweight assembly

With the introduction of Oculus Quest in 2019, the price (as well as limitations) of Virtual Reality (VR) headsets dropped significantly. Renowned electronics producer HTC is heating up the competition even further with its new flagship all-in-one VIVE XR ELITE VR Headset.

According to their announcement earlier this month, the headset aims to combine Mixed Reality (MR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in a compact, powerful, versatile and lightweight assembly.

Cher Want, Co-Founder and Chairwoman of HTC Corp. said,

“The VIVE XR Elite all-in-one represents the next milestone in the progression towards the fully immersive internet, going beyond today’s VR with accurate pass-through video to open up a new realm of realism in learning and playing. […] This advanced yet compact device offers the best of all worlds for consumers, providing the ideal physical gateway to the universe of experiences offered by VIVERSE, our version of the metaverse.”

HTC partnered with Japanese creator platform Pixiv to develop their version of the metaverse called the VIVERSE

Fashion magazine ELLE Taiwan has a showroom in the metaverse named “ELLEverse.” VIVERSE will host and adorn the showroom with customized avatar outfits and exciting events. Other significant partnerships include Warner Music Taiwan and Lemina1’s development of an open metaverse ecosystem.

Lemina1 was co-founded by author Neal Stephenson who himself coined the term ‘metaverse’ in one of his sci-fi books back in the 90s. VIVERSE will use Lamina1’s blockchain-backed tools to enable cross-platform and cross-world asset distribution and management.

Earlier users had to face some difficulties in holding their digital assets during the transition from one metaverse to another. VIVERSE collaboration with Lamina1 aims to resolve the problem permanently.
