Neopets metaverse successfully raises $4 million as classic game enters web3

The classic pet game, Neopets, which has enchanted players around the world for decades, is venturing into new territory with a $4 million investment in its innovative metaverse. As part of this growing trend within gaming culture, Neopets is committed to bringing their pets to the metaverse.

Neopets Metaverse: What is it?

Neopets is a well-known online game that launched in the late 90s. Since then, the game has garnered over 150 million followers all across the globe. The game enables users to take care of virtual pets and purchase virtual goods using virtual currency.

Neopets Metaverse is the company’s most recent endeavor. The platform is all about decentralizing the virtual pet game by letting users own and profit from their gaming activities on the blockchain.

Several prominent companies in the blockchain industry have contributed a total of $4 million to the Neopets Metaverse project. They include Polygon, Hashkey Capital, Blizzard Avalanche Fund, IDG Capital, and NetDragon Websoft Holdings.

According to the Chief Metaverse Officer at Neopets Meta, the funding will enable it to further capture the attention of its community. He further described the Neopets metaverse as a “genuinely inclusive and immersive gaming experience”.

What will Neopets do with the funds?

The company released information about the fundraising event on January 19, 2023. This announcement came shortly after the Winter Edition of Neopets Meta Alpha was successfully launched. Players have given the game high marks, praising its gameplay and retro-inspired minigames.

Some of them include “Turmac Roll”,  “Meerca Chase” and “Ultimate Bullseye”. The Alpha: Winter Edition is now on the Neopets Metaverse website up until the 31st of January, 2023.

The funding raised will help Neopets expand, and add new features to its Alpha to improve the gaming experience. In addition, the company also plans to revitalize the IP and reintroduce a better version of the game to both the old and new generations of gamers.

With these initiatives, a better version of Neopets will be released, and the Neopets Metaverse will be made available to everyone.
