Shanghai Metaverse Pilot Program

Residents of twenty major metropolitan areas in Shanghai are set to benefit from exciting new metaverse activities. Part of an ambitious pilot program aiming to broaden access to virtual reality applications, the Shanghai metaverse project aims to deliver immersive experiences that combine gaming and social media elements with real-world activities.

What is the Shanghai MetaVerse Pilot Program?

The Shanghai Metaverse Pilot program is a city-wide project that aims to provide digital services in twenty urban locations. The Commission of Economy and Information of Shanghai Municipal unveiled the initiative to transform the metropolitan locations into “major metaverse application zones”

The city believes that using this technology will enable citizens to utilize the city’s IT services in various fields. The innovation will improve the operations of businesses, the educational sector, the entertainment industry, and so on.

The growing metaverse wave in Shanghai

Virtual reality and metaverse technology are rapidly growing in Shanghai. In July 2022, the city announced its intention to elevate itself to a world-famous metaverse cluster by 2025. The Shanghai city metaverse program is a strong way for the city to show its commitment to its initial plans.

The iconic Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai, a prominent destination for tourists, is launching an exciting new experience. Through the use of Virtual Reality, visitors will be able to go beyond the bustling business district and explore their surroundings from high up on this one-of-a-kind broadcasting tower.

The Shanghai Skyscraper’s management is optimistic that these projects can become an enthralling experience for tourists. Additionally, the management thinks it will bolster the city’s online presence by making it “more interesting and accessible”.

The health sector is also enjoying Shanghai’s burgeoning metaverse wave. Rujin Hospital is set to establish a virtual reality facility to investigate patient rooms using metaverse representations related to healthcare.

Also, in Shanghai, “a metaverse diagnostic system” is now at the city’s Eye and ENT Hospital. This metaverse element enables doctors to leverage 3D remote diagnosis technology to provide better and more accurate healthcare.

Another instance that shows Shanghai embraces future technology is the conversion of Nanjing Road into a virtual commercial hub that enables people to buy things using digital Yuan.
