Tech companies to exhibit AI, Metaverse and more at MWC

The annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) wireless trade fair will kick off Monday, February 27, 2023. Technology experts will showcase the latest smartphones, AI-powered chatbot avatars, and immersive metaverse experiences at the event.

MWC is the most prominent meeting of mobile tech giants. The four-day event will be held at a Barcelona conference and will end on Thursday, March 2, 2023.

The latest folding-screen smartphones, immersive metaverse experiences, AI-powered chatbot avatars, and other eye-catching technology will wow visitors at Monday’s annual MWC wireless trade fair. MWC has evolved over the years from a meeting for mobile phone standards into an exhibition of the latest wireless technology. 

The event is expected to host more than 80,000 attendees from over 200 countries. This is a big boost for the organizers as this year’s attendance reflects a big bounce after several years of pandemic disruptions. 

Here are the things to expect in the event:

Metaverse

Several tech companies will be eager to pick up from where they left at last year’s MWC and, more recently, at other recent tech fairs like CES in Las Vegas in January. These companies will plan to display their metaverse experiences to promote users’ connection and bolster attendance at faraway events. 

There was a lot of buzz around the metaverse at last year’s MWC and other recent tech fairs like last month’s CES in Las Vegas. This year, software company Amdocs will give users a “metatour” experience with virtual and augmented reality. Other tech companies will treat attendees to metaverse experiences by virtually trying on clothes or physical rehab.

Artificial intelligence

AI is making a splash in the tech world with powerful new tools like ChatGPT to conduct conversations and create readable text. According to Ben Wood of CCS Insight, Artificial Intelligence will be an “overused buzzword” at this year’s MWC.

Companies are leveraging AI to save energy on home Wi-Fi networks and are ready to show that in the event. There are speculations that Microsoft may exhibit its chatbot, although the company’s press representatives are yet to give any details. 

Startups revolutionizing AI-powered chat technology will be on full display. For instance, D-ID will exhibit their eerie “digital human” avatars. Botslovers will also show off its services which it claims will “free humans from boring tasks.”

5G Network

Last decade, MWC made headlines as the premier go-to event for smartphone launches featuring all the latest flashy innovations. However, the plateau in phone advances today and companies opting to launch devices differently has made seeing what this year’s show has in store enjoyable. 

There will be talks on the prospects of the 5G internet network. As the next generation of wireless technology, 5G has the bright potential to revolutionize telecommunication conversations as we know them. For instance, technology could create innovation, including automated factories, smart cities, and driverless cars.
