On Wednesday, Chinese tech giant Kunlun Tech revealed ambitious plans for its flagship browser, Opera. The company stated in a blog post that the generative AI, ChatGPT, would be available on the mobile and PC versions of the browsers. The business also announced testing a new “Shorten” button on the address bar, which will leverage AI to generate summaries of web pages and articles.
According to the blog post, Opera users are in for a treat as the company will add AI-driven content services to their browser sidebar. The new features will be generated by powerful Artificial Intelligence tools and other functionalities that promise an enriched browsing experience from now on.
“It is Opera’s belief that with AI solutions springing up both for text, image, and audio generation and in countless other forms, we are at the brink of a new era of creativity on the web. That’s why we’re reshaping the browser to allow our users to tap into all these resources and to unfold their full potential in the best possible way,”
Krystian Kolondra, EVP PC Browsers and Gaming at Opera
Web browsers leveraging AI
Opera claims the generative AI feature can help users cope with the deluge of information on the web. The summary feature, for instance, will be an invaluable tool for people who don’t want to browse an entire article or web page. However, the launch date of the feature is still unknown.
Opera is not the only browser joining the AI train. According to Microsoft, it will soon integrate AI into its Bing search engine and Edge browser. Google also recently announced its AI chatbot, Bard. However, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Alphabet Inc., who saw its stock take a $100 billion hit because of false information tweeted out by their recent AI endeavor.
