Although the metaverse is unquestionably large, it is hardly all-inclusive. Yat Siu, the founder and CEO of Animoca Brands and the unidentified NFT collector Punk6529, thinks Web3 should work to build an “Open Metaverse.” Open Metaverse is an interoperable area that crosses all or most platforms.
To achieve this goal, Lamina1 is targeting early adopters of the metaverse, particularly those in the gaming industry. The goal is to bring Web2 game design and usability to Web3 gaming.
Lamina1 Open Metaverse
Rebecca Barkin, the CEO, discussed her plan to develop Lamina1 as the foundation for the next metaverse iteration in an interview with CoinDesk.
According to Barkin, the Open Metaverse is an online infrastructure that enables users to carry out direct transactions. It also allows transferring their personal data across platforms, and properly monetize their intellectual property.
According to Barkin, Lamina1 looks at markets for sectors like music, entertainment, and fashion that may not be as metaverse-ready. The company is gearing up to embrace blockchain technologies through various projects and initiatives.
In December, Lamina1 launched the Lamina1 Ecosystem Fund to aid in bringing new projects into its fledgling ecosystem. A rotating funding program, it enables early Web3 initiatives to use the Lamina1 ecosystem and access metaverse resources.
Barkin said that Lamina1 plans to stay hands-off, just providing the funding required for initiatives to further their roots in the metaverse, despite the eligibility to apply for grants.
The first investments made by Lamina1 in its ecosystem fund will be made public shortly. A group of initiatives selected to help define the ecosystem’s future is part of the company’s newly announced Early Access Programme. These initiatives include Web3 intellectual property (IP) studio O.xyz, music platform Patch XR, and game studio Dubit.
