Google is bringing Ai to Gmail and Google Docs

Google has announced embedding artificial intelligence (AI) features into its workspace applications, Gmail and Google Docs, to make creating text easier. This move comes as part of the company’s efforts to enhance its productivity tools and provide a more efficient experience for its users.

In a blog post, the Vice President for Google Workspace, Johanna Voolich Wright, mentioned that integrating AI technology would save users time and effort when writing the first abstract of any text. All a user needs to do is type in the topic of interest, and the AI will create a draft immediately.

The users can type “draft an email to the team” in the chat box of their email, with the AI feature responding with a draft. The user can change the tone, shorten it, turn it into a bullet list, or go into more detail. If the user is unsatisfied, he can ask the program to create another one.

Google is introducing AI into Gmail and Google Docs to boost user experience

With the new AI features, users can expect to see improvements in the accuracy and quality of the text they create and a reduction in the time and effort required to produce it. This will be particularly beneficial for those who regularly use Gmail and Google Docs for work-related tasks, such as writing reports, creating presentations, and sending emails.

When will Google open the AI features?

Google revealed that it has more than three billion users and is testing new AI features to enhance its services. The company stated that the new AI features would be made available to a select group of trusted testers as it seeks to ensure that the features are effective before rolling them out to the public.

A Google spokesperson said that the company would make these features accessible to some business and education users. However, he didn’t mention when it would be made available to everyone or if the features would attract extra costs for users.

 Google responds to competition

Generative AI has become arguably the hottest concept in the AI industry since the emergence of ChatGPT in November 2022. In the wake of the buzz surrounding ChatGPT, major tech companies seek to incorporate similar features into their products. Google, in particular, has been making significant moves in this direction. The company recently asked its employees to test competitors’ ChatGPT-like products, signaling its intent to incorporate AI into its services.

In February, Google announced that it would be including AI features in its main internet browsers. On Tuesday, Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, announced that the company has started testing the service in its Workspace. This new feature will allow users to create complete text within the Workspace without referring to any browser.

Google is not the only technology that is encouraging productivity with AI. Elsewhere, popular writing assistant, Grammarly, announced GrammarlyGo ,a new tool which employs generative AI. The world’s biggest collection of royalty-free images, Shutterstock, also unveiled its own AI image generator in January.
