$16 JioDive VR Headset Challenges Established Players in the Market

Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s company, Reliance Industries, has launched JioDive, a virtual reality (VR) headset that promises an immersive entertainment experience at a much lower price point than competitors in the VR headset market. The device is exclusively available on JioMart, an Indian e-commerce platform, for $16 (U.S. dollars) or Rs 1,299 (Indian rupee).

The launch of JioDive has sent shockwaves through the VR industry, with experts predicting that it will be a significant disruptor. The affordable VR headset is set to challenge established global players such as Meta, whose upcoming Quest Pro is expected to cost $999, and Apple’s VR headset, rumored to be priced at around $3,000.

Meta slashed the prices of its Quest 2 and high-end Quest Pro headsets in March 2023. The 256GB Meta Quest 2 dropped from $499.99 to $429.99, while the higher-end Meta Quest Pro saw a price reduction from $1,499.99 to $999.99. In contrast, MacRumors.com reported in April that Apple’s AR/VR headset could cost around $3,000.

JioDive to give market leaders a run for their money

With the affordable price of JioDive, Meta’s and Apple’s expansive VR headsets will have a tough time penetrating the low-budget market. The JioDive VR headset requires an Android or iOS phone with a display size between 4.7 and 6.7 inches to function. Compatible OS versions are Android 9 and above, and iOS 15 and above, and the phone should have a gyroscope and an accelerometer. Users must also install the JioImmerse app, exclusively for Jio users from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

The JioDive VR headset offers seamless interactions in virtual reality space. It also has a three-way adjustable strap for maximum comfort and fit, and has adjustable lenses for visual comfort and a sharper and clearer image. The VR headset also offers an ergonomic fit for extended wear. Additionally, it supports immersive experiences, allowing for enjoyment of a 90° field of view with high-quality lenses.
